 Bevin Turnbull/musical director 

Musical Director, Pianist, Composer and Teacher, Bevin is the founder and Artistic Director of Bronx Renaissance Community Theater in the North East Bronx. He holds a masters degree in Education from the State University of Pennsylvania; Bachelors degree 

from Howard University and attended the Juilliard School of music.

 

Bevin's first instrument was the drum which he played throughout his early years in school bands.

After graduation from high school, he entered Howard University set on following in his father's footsteps to become a doctor. While at Howard, he enrolled in a music composition class with the legendary Dr. Donald Byrd and sang in the Concert Choir. It was Dr. Byrd who influenced him to further his studies in piano and composition; following up on the start his aunt had given him. Piano became his principal instrument. He played with Byrd's "Big Bad Band" which became the famous Black Byrd.

 

Bevin has recorded more than a dozen records with several groups, as well as with his own band, New Jazz City.
